DSOK is excited to announce that this spring, the Saturday Solutions workshop will feature guest speaker Stephen Ponder, MD, FAAP, CDE. Dr. Ponder is a pediatric endocrinologist from Temple, Texas; faculty of Scott and White Healthcare’s Residency Program; and medical director of the Texas Lions Camp for Children with Diabetes. He has published multiple books and publications related to type 1 diabetes and he himself has lived with type 1 diabetes for 50 years.
Dr. Ponder will lead us through the principles discussed in his book, “Sugar Surfing.” The workshop will focus on this dynamic method of diabetes self-care that teaches a philosophy which exceeds formulas, sliding scales and algorithms. It is a fun and interactive workshop that is an empowering approach which only improves and strengthens with time and practice.
Sugar surfing is the embodiment of taking charge of one’s diabetes, and requires the virtues of patience, consistency and resilience to attain the necessary skills and experience to achieve.
During the 3 hour workshop, snacks and drinks will be served to participants as they journey through vendor displays. These company representatives will be showcasing a myriad of diabetes products, insulins and assorted technology designed to provide people with diabetes new opportunities to improve their diabetes care.
